Hello everyone,

Sunshine! It’s amazing what a beautiful clear day can do for one’s spirits after two weeks of rain! The course is looking marvellous despite the high rainfall and drainage remains superb. We have been welcoming numerous members from other clubs who want a game while their courses recover from the deluge. The weather has been lovely the last couple of days, and we have had full fields enjoying the conditions. Also, a word about our South African Olympians in Paris. Three swimmers compete for medals this evening, our golfers are currently playing, and the athletics gets underway today. It has been superb so far. Enjoy!

Info session

The information session on Tuesday went very well, with 17 members and several committee members in attendance. This was to allow members a chance to ask questions about the items being voted on at the S.G.M. next Wednesday, and it was refreshing to hear everyone’s point of view. Please join us next Wednesday at 18:30 and cast your vote.

Greens

The Greenkeeping team is sodding unsightly areas on the course, and the area adjacent to the 9th green has long been an eyesore, as it is not covered by sprinklers. To that end, new sod has now been laid, and the sprinklers will be installed before summer.

Wine and Dine – 7 September (Save the Date)

Our next Wine & Dine evening is on Saturday, 7th September. Members will have the first option. Bookings are now open with Tina, and you can give her a call to book your table and pay directly on (021) 788 2020. Please note that bookings are only confirmed when full payment is received.

The cost per person is R595, which includes a six-course meal, fresh ciabatta on the table, plus 5 wines and an after-dinner coffee. The wines and food will be exceptional, and the chef and winemaker are currently pairing the correct wines to complement each dish. The wines are being supplied by Fairview wines. Don’t miss this – it is going to be a very memorable evening!

Payment of Annual Subs – Due by 31st August 2024

A reminder that our new financial year starts on 1 September. Please note:

If you want to change your category, please do so with plenty of time for Carmen to make the changes and mail them back to you. Feel free to mail her at membership@westlakegolfclub.co.za or give her a call at (021) 788 2020.
Payment Options:
- Full amount paid in full by 31 August – EFT only, please.
- Debit Order monthly over 12 months. Please come into the office and sign a new form for the new financial year. It does not simply carry on, as the amount will change.
- Debit Order quarterly. Every 3 months starting 1 September. As above – sign in office.
- Pay the full amount by 31 October as per the Constitution in 3 equal instalments (31 August, 30 September, and 31 October).
- No other payment plans will be possible, due to the amount of admin required to manage numerous individual requests.
Payment of subs – Please pay by EFT only. This saves the club on credit card and Clubmaster fees.
NB! Reference when paying subs – Kindly use your “Account number” and name. You will find this number on your pro forma invoice.

In spite of WP Ladies League being cancelled on Tuesday, Westlake was open for a great afternoon of golf, and we managed to get a ladies Alliance 3,2,1 competition together for the afternoon and invited the league ladies from Steenberg to join them. Their praise of Westlake was universal, and our ladies expressed their thanks to everyone involved in keeping our course operational! Well done to Jomar and his team.

There was also a lot of fun had at prizegiving on Wednesday evening, with the Knobs presenting our Captain with a teapot for all his fines given to annoyed golfers waiting for slow players with hands on hips.

Festival week – September

Golf bookings are filling up fast! All the booking sheets are in the foyer, and the office is also taking bookings on (021) 788 2020. Our annual Festival week is from Sunday, 22nd September to Saturday, 28th September. The Big Bash Party is also on Saturday, 28th September, and as always, it will be a “jol” with live music and fantastic food. Don’t miss this week!

Regarding the Big Bash on the Saturday, bookings are open. You can just phone reception to book your table.
